Prestigious international annual awards program recognizes standout digital health & medical technology products and companies
Woburn, US and Leatherhead, UK. May 15th, 2025 – BridgeHead Software, a leading global provider of healthcare data management solutions, today announced that its HealthStore® Clinical Data Repository (CDR) has been selected as winner of the “Best Healthcare Data Repository Solution” award in the 9th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards.

The awards program is conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global digital health and medical technology market. This marks the fourth time that BridgeHead has won this award initially in 2017, then 2019, 2023 and now 2025.

BridgeHead’s HealthStore® Clinical Data Repository (CDR) consolidates, stores, protects and shares live and legacy patient data residing outside of the EHR – including medical images, clinical reports, lab results, scanned documents and other essential clinical information. Once in HealthStore, clinicians and other stakeholders can quickly access this data directly ‘in context’ from the EHR. This provides a rich, longitudinal patient record that aids care decisions, improves patient outcomes, reduces workloads for health information mangers, leverages data for secondary use (such as clinical research) and powers analytics and AI initiatives.

HealthStore leverages standards such as FHIR, HL7 and DICOM for live interoperability between vendors and organizations. As a result, HealthStore can query, retrieve, and share data across disparate healthcare applications in support of complex patient journeys. This has been demonstrated repeatedly in live environments with HealthStore sharing data with systems, such as Epic, Oracle Health, eHealth Exchange and more; most recently shown at the 2025 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas.

“HealthStore has been specifically designed to augment the patient record with easy access to data residing outside of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. As a centralized, interoperable clinical data hub, HealthStore underpins healthcare organizations’ digital transformation journeys and enables them to manage and leverage one of their most important and strategic assets, patient and clinical data, so critical in today’s modern healthcare ecosystem,” said Jim Beagle, President and CEO at BridgeHead Software.

“It’s a thrill to accept the ‘Best Healthcare Data Repository Solution’ from MedTech Breakthrough. It is recognition that the direction we have taken with HealthStore as the ‘Foundation for the Future of Clinical Data Management’ is the right one. We will continue our efforts to ensure HealthStore continues to support the ever-changing needs of healthcare providers with advanced, future-proof data management solutions.”

The MedTech Breakthrough Awards program celebrates excellence and innovation in the health and medical technology industry, recognizing the companies, products, and solutions driving meaningful progress and improving patient care. Spanning a wide range of categories including Telehealth, Clinical Administration, Patient Engagement, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Virtual Care, Medical Devices, Medical Data & Privacy and beyond, the awards highlight the groundbreaking work that is transforming the healthcare landscape.

This year’s program saw a record-breaking number of nominations from leading companies and startups across more than 18 countries, showcasing the global impact and momentum of the digital healthcare industry today.

“Data locked in departmental silos or with other barriers to access, collaboration or sharing leave healthcare organizations with unnecessary burdens in productivity and effectiveness that impede care delivery and negatively impact patient outcomes and experiences. By aggregating disparate, often siloed, datasets, BridgeHead’s HealthStore is driving improved clinical and operational efficiencies for its customers,” said Steve Johansson, Managing Director, MedTech Breakthrough.

“BridgeHead’s HealthStore Clinical Data Repository is redefining what’s possible in clinical data management, helping providers to consolidate, store, protect and share data from across the healthcare enterprise and beyond – now and into the future.”

HealthStore offers a range of solutions to overcome data management issues for customers from the underpinning of Enterprise Imaging strategies (with HealthStore’s inbuilt vendor neutral archive (VNA)) to the decommissioning of legacy applications, reducing risk and cost whilst preserving the value of the data they contain. Recent innovations include HealthStore’s ability to ingest and share data from live systems using FHIR, as well as offering business and clinical continuity for planned and unplanned downtime scenarios.

HealthStore customers in the US and UK offered words of support for BridgeHead in receipt of this prestigious award. “We’re delighted that BridgeHead’s HealthStore has been recognized for the 2025 MEDTECH Breakthrough Award for Best Healthcare Data Repository Solution. HealthStore has given us a powerful and scalable foundation for managing legacy and clinical data across our enterprise. It has significantly reduced our overall costs while streamlining access for our Medical Records staff – allowing them to retrieve information from one central location instead of navigating seven separate systems. It’s become a critical component of our long-term data strategy at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center,” said Justin Millar, Director of Information Technology and Security Management at Mount Graham Regional Medical Center in Arizona.

“We’d like to offer BridgeHead our warmest congratulations for winning the 2025 MedTech Breakthrough Award for “Best Healthcare Data Repository Solution” for HealthStore®. We made the decision to implement the HealthStore Clinical Data Repository at Government of Jersey to underpin our clinical data management strategy and help drive our digital maturity aspirations. The power of HealthStore is its unique ability to consolidate, store, protect and share a wide array of data, such as medical images, lab results, clinical reports, and more. This is well-deserved recognition, and we’re delighted for the team at BridgeHead,” said Martin Carpenter, Health CIO for Jersey.

Prestigious International Annual Awards Program Recognizes Standout Digital Health & Medical Technology Products and Companies

MASSACHUSETTS, USA 9th May 2023BridgeHead Software, the Healthcare Data Management company, today announced that BridgeHead’s HealthStore® has been recognized as winner of the “Best Healthcare Data Repository” award in the 7th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global health and medical technology market.

BridgeHead’s HealthStore® is a clinical data repository and registry for all healthcare information. The company’s latest release of HealthStore has focused on full support of the FHIR standard for data interoperability. This enables HealthStore to query and retrieve data from other FHIR-enabled systems.

HealthStore also provides a place to consolidate, store, protect, and provide access to the information it receives from those FHIR queries – making it available as part of the longitudinal patient record. In addition, HealthStore also allows other FHIR-enabled systems to query its registry and retrieve the data held within its repository.

Additionally, as HealthStore manages all manner of healthcare data, it is able to decommission applications ranging from EMRs to LIMS; PACS to emergency department systems – all using a single repository and registry. This allows hospitals to now extract all of the data from their inherited, duplicate and/or legacy systems, then store, protect, and access it within HealthStore’s clinical data repository.

“The reality is that comprehensive and cost-effective solutions that address the legacy application conundrum have been elusive. And with the increased complexity of data compliance and governance obligations, many hospitals have felt impotent to tackle the issue,” said John McCann, Vice President of Global Marketing at BridgeHead. “Increasingly, our customers are utilizing HealthStore to retire their legacy systems. Thanks to our latest innovations and product developments, we believe HealthStore is the only enterprise-wide, cross-department, clinical repository and registry worldwide that can consolidate, store, protect, and provide access to a combination of structured and unstructured documents, medical images, and discrete data; all in one place!”

The mission of the MedTech Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the innovation, hard work and success in a range of health and medical technology categories, including Telehealth, Clinical Administration, Patient Engagement, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Virtual Care, Medical Devices, Medical Data and many more. This year’s program attracted more than 4,000 nominations from over 17 different countries throughout the world.

“Approximately 70 percent of healthcare data lives outside of the EHR and much of this information is trapped inside patient, clinical or administrative application silos as many legacy applications have been inherited or replaced in favor of newer, fuller-featured systems or homegrown applications that are no longer supported,” said James Johnson, managing director, MedTech Breakthrough. “Bridgehead Software’s HealthStore helps in retiring these legacy applications – saving time, money, and resources; all whilst reducing security vulnerabilities, such as cyberattack and/or system failures from aging applications and hardware. Congratulations to the BridgeHead team for taking home this well-deserved 2023 MedTech Breakthrough Award.”

With HealthStore, staff across the ecosystem will be able to access their healthcare information anytime, anywhere, and on any approved device either directly via HealthStore’s web interface or through integrations with the EMR (or other systems).

HealthStore also acts as the central registry and repository to aid hospitals in meeting their HIPAA compliance obligations, particularly the delivery of the USCDI and the designated record set (DRS), thereby avoiding penalties associated with the ONC’s information blocking rules.

WOBURN, MA – October 10, 2023 – King’s Daughters Medical Center (KDMC), Mississippi, has announced the go-live of independent clinical data repository (CDR), HealthStore®, from BridgeHead Software. The project has included the decommissioning of its legacy EHR solution and the migration of more than 20 years of data.

KDMC, a 60-bed facility, which supports patients from a five-county region, partnered with BridgeHead Software, experts in healthcare application retirement, to lead the project.

With the decommissioning of KDMC’s legacy EHR solution, MEDITECH Magic; almost 700,000 patient records have been migrated to HealthStore during the 6-month implementation programme. As a single repository, HealthStore consolidates, stores and protects patient data, enabling clinicians to access and retrieve patient information at the point of care.

“We wanted to work with a team with concrete experience in retiring legacy data applications. BridgeHead provides peace of mind, not only knowing that you can show and teach staff how to use HealthStore and feel confident that they will pick it up easily, but the reassurance that everything they need is at their fingertips. I also wanted to ensure the protection of the legacy EHR data and felt very comfortable with the security capabilities that HealthStore provides,” said Kevin Kimble, Data Systems Specialist at KDMC.

Continuing to run legacy systems is a drain on resources for healthcare organizations, costing time, resource, and money. Legacy solutions also pose a greater security risk and are more vulnerable to cyberattack over time. However, the move to HealthStore provides better all-round data protection and has facilitated cost savings in terms of the manpower to run and maintain these systems, as well as licensing, hosting of servers, power, cooling, and more. By retiring the MEDITECH MAGIC system, KDMC was also able to decommission all of the associated equipment used to run the legacy EHR.

Furthermore, it has streamlined working practices, enabling clinical and non-clinical staff to securely access historical and current data quickly and easily. HealthStore’s intuitive timeline functionality enables a summary full view of a patient’s history and displays the corresponding number of documents for each patient by month and year, whether clinical, financial, or administrative.

Jim Beagle, President and CEO at BridgeHead Software comments, “When healthcare organizations recognise their legacy EHR systems are no longer delivering sufficient value to justify their continued support and maintenance, it’s time to explore how best to decommission those applications – and KDMC is a prime example of how to embark on an effective application retirement project.

“Not only has KDMC saved precious time and money on supporting an out-of-date system, it has provided the workforce with the right tools to access valuable legacy data quickly, easily, and securely, to ultimately support improved patient care.”
