TOKYO, Japan. September 20th, 2024 – Famous voice actress Akiho Suzumoto has been announced as the voice of the protagonist for the new action-based survival roguelike with horror elements “SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist”.

Akiho Suzumoto will lend her voice to the game’s protagonist, Yono. She has worked extensively in anime, games, and theatre, including in the role of Natsuha Arisugawa in “THE iDOLM@STER SHINY COLORS.”

The new game is the second title to be created by KADOKAWA Game Linkage and ABC Animation, who were also behind the Ninja Slayer Neosaitama in Flames franchise which was released earlier this summer. 

Akiho Suzumoto said: “I feel very privileged to be able to voice the protagonist Yono-chan. 

“I portrayed her while feeling her serene and internally fiery personality. Since this is a horror action game, there is a constant undercurrent of suspense and I remember being a little nervous during the recording because it was different from usual.

SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist is an action-based survival game which boasts horror elements. It will follow the story of Yono, a Miko (maiden exorcist), trying to track down her missing exorcist brother. However, the hunt takes a turn for the worse when it leads her to a mysterious and terrifying mansion where many mononoke (yokai and vengeful spirits) are waiting for her.

Even those who do not ordinarily enjoy action games can enjoy this game due to its strategic elements.

A special game related live broadcast will take place on YouTube on 28 and 29 September featuring Akiho Suzumoto and a number of game makers, where the secrets of SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist will be revealed.

July 29th, 2024 – KADOKAWA Game Linkage and ABC Animation are thrilled to announce that the Nintendo Switch and Steam (download) versions of “Ninja Slayer Neosaitama in Flames”, a game adaptation of the popular novel and comic book, are now available for purchase. This release coincides with the anniversary of the comic’s serialization on Twitter (now X). This title marks the first indie game project between KADOKAWA Game Linkage and ABC Animation.

The original “Ninja Slayer” series is a blockbuster hit, with over 4.44 million copies sold. The game’s world is based on the novel’s universe and is enriched by vivid images from the comics. Set in the cyberpunk fictional city of “Neo Saitama”, players assume the role of Ninja Slayer, engaging in high-speed battles against numerous sinister enemy ninjas to avenge his wife and child.

Players can challenge eight boss ninjas in any order. Defeating all the bosses will open the way to Tokorozawa Pillar, the final stronghold where Laomoto awaits. In addition to the boss characters, the game features a Dark Ninja with deep ties to Ninja Slayer. His Hisatsu-Waza, the “Death-Kiri”, and his demon sword Beppin present significant challenges for players.

Key game features include the Ninja-dash, which allows players to slaughter many enemies at once, and Naraku mode, where even fallen ninjas can come back stronger than before, albeit with a hidden price. “Neosaitama in Flames” promises many adrenaline-fueled battles.

The creators of the Ninja Slayer comics, Bradley Bond and Philip Ninj@ Morzez, have expressed their satisfaction with the game’s adaptation, noting that the overall atmosphere is very faithful to the comics.

TOKYO, JAPAN. June 19th, 2024 – “Ninja Slayer Neosaitama in Flames”, a game adaptation of the popular novel and comic book, will be released on 24 July 2024 on Nintendo Switch and Steam.

This title is the first title in an indie game project between developers KADOKAWA Game Linkage and ABC Animation. 

The game is based on popular series Ninja Slayer, which has now sold more than 4.4 million copies in novels, comics, and other forms. 

“Neosaitama in Flames“, which is the first part of the story, will be the stage for this game. It is an action game in which the protagonist, The Ninja Slayer, will face numerous powerful enemies in life-and-death battles.

Eight unique bosses await in various stages, and these can be tackled in any order of the player’s choosing.

The project is a collaboration between ABC Animation, which has been creating animation IP and KADOKAWA Game Linkage, which has long been involved in games as a game media company, with Famitsu and Dengeki Game under its belt. This is a joint initiative to produce a high-quality indie game.

ABC Animation and KADOKAWA Game Linkage will have a booth at Bit Summit Drift, one of the largest national indie game events in Japan, where they will be showcasing “Ninja Slayer Neosaitama in Flames”. The event takes place in Kyoto on 19-21 July.

Even in the gaming world, Indie games are unique because they allow the creator’s thoughts and ideas to shine through in a straightforward manner. This project aims to use Indie Games to popularize the titles that these games are based on in Japan and the rest of the world.

Bradley Bond, one of the creators of Ninja Slayer, said: “The Ninja Slayer franchise itself is heavily influenced by several classic video games. The “Neosaitama in Flames” version is particularly nuanced, so it should be a good fit for a side-scrolling action game.

In order to survive, players will be expected to look out for the presence of the mononoke in the form of noises or following clues – but exploring such places can kill their adversaries too!

When Yono is in danger, another personality of hers appears and her abilities are greatly enhanced. One of the key points of the strategy to survive till the end is to skillfully manipulate this change of personalities.

There are three game modes: “Harai,” “Misogi,” and “Gyou”. “Gyou” is the highest difficulty mode, in which players compete to see how long they can survive in an endless dungeon.  The game is based in a Japanese setting – with ongoing threats from numerous monsters. 

The new launch took inspiration from the former Shinonome game which was previously available on Steam. The creators made sure to take users feedback seriously and, as a result, added a variety of characters and a challenging ‘boss’. 

SHINONOME ABYSS: The Maiden Exorcist is also available to play in Japanese, English and Chinese. It is suitable for players of all ages, and it has been specifically recommended for people who are fans of retro gaming.
