DezertDawgz will soon be releasing a collection of 2222 unique art pieces which will be available as Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Solana Blockchain. These randomly generated images will be used to raise awareness and funds for their cause.

The street dog rescue mission’s statement is to “rescue, treat, rehabilitate and rehome the street dogs of Qatar.” Based in Qatar, Dezertdawgz is run by a husband-and-wife team who have lived in the Middle East for 8 years. When they arrived, they were soon horrified and appalled at the plight of the many dogs roaming the streets. 

They have been rescuing animals ever since to send them abroad to have better lives, but it is expensive work. Due to the costs involved, they have only been able to rehome around 150 dogs in that time. With this new NFT project, they hope to be able to send 500 of these desperate dogs to new homes before the end of the year with the funds generated. 

Many people are getting blockchain for purely financial reasons or to speculate with it because there are no regulations around cryptocurrencies. However, the Dezertdawgz NFT collection gives people an excellent opportunity to own some unique artwork while simultaneously helping out a good cause.

Qatar has a huge street dog problem, with many dogs being mistreated, abandoned, and left to die in some of the harshest conditions on the planet. These dogs roam freely in residential and industrial areas.

Do love dogs? Take a moment and look at your pet dog. Now try and imagine how they would feel if they were lost and alone with nothing but roaring traffic, rocks and dust for company. Definitely not something you or anyone would want to imagine. 

The Gulf nation has long struggled with animals abandoned by departing expats. The conditions that these dogs are living in are heartbreaking. Plus, the fact that there is so much animal cruelty going on is appalling.

Each image from the Dezertdawgz collection will be accompanied by its PFP (Permanent File URL) and can be adopted by anyone who wishes to support this cause. When you adopt an NFT Dawg, you directly contribute to the rescue of a dog. Street dogs are rescued and rehabilitated and then new loving homes are found for them. Every dog counts, and this organization needs help to make a difference.

Cash donations will also be made to local dog rescue organizations as sales progress and fund ongoing dog rescue activities. For every IRL dog rescued, as a result of this project, one special edition Dezertdawgz NFT from a collection of 500 will be given away. If you hold a Dezertdawgz, you will be eligible for this giveaway and it will entitle the holder to further perks down the line. Additionally, existing holders will also receive free drops of any future Dezertdawgz collections. 

Dezertdawgz will document rescue efforts and the progress made toward the goal of 500 saved dogs on social media. The project launches on 14 March at 0030 GMT.

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is celebrating the biggest known cryptocurrency donation in Scottish history.

The Home has been gifted 26 Ethereum, (approximately $118,000USD or £87,000GBP) by Pawthereum, a community-run charity cryptocurrency project focussed on supporting animal welfare organisations and being a digital advocate for animals in need. The donation has been given to fund the Home’s Pet Foodbank service, Paws Pantry, for the whole of 2022.

Paws Pantry initiative aims to tackle pet poverty in Scotland, one of the leading causes of pet surrender. Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home works with 52 foodbanks and community groups and provides essential pet food, collars, jackets, bedding and other care items to pet owners in need. Over 1,300 animals per month are now being cared for through this service.

Nicola Gunn, Director of Development and External Affairs at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, said:

“Our team’s day-to-day work to ensure vulnerable animals get the care they need is absolutely relentless, and just to know that this has been recognised by Pawthereum is incredibly overwhelming. There really aren’t enough words to thank them for this donation, which will ensure another year of Scottish pets being warm, fed and most importantly, remaining in loving homes.”

Pawthereum has also committed to donating a further $2,000 per month to the rescue to ensure the ongoing growth of the service, as it continues to expand across East and Central Scotland. Last month, as part of their ‘Pack in Pet Poverty’ campaign, the Home reported a 77% rise in the use of Paws Pantry between 2020 and 2021.

The Home first started taking cryptocurrency donations in response to the financial struggles of the pandemic, when other income streams such as events and community fundraising began to dry up. CHICAGO, US, 31st July 2023 – Recent grief statistics have revealed that 46% of people across the world have experienced the death of a pet. For many, the loss of a beloved animal can be their first experience of bereavement.

Grief experts at Medium Britta have shared their five top tips on helping children to overcome the loss of a pet.

1. Talk Openly About What Happened

By the age of 8 or 9, most children understand the finality of death. So having an honest and frank discussion with children is likely a sensible approach. Below this age, parents will have beliefs or an agreement about what they tell their children in the event of a bereavement

2. Involve the Child in What Happens Next with Their Pet

It is advised to involve children, if they are old enough, in discussions around whether they should be buried or cremated and where the ashes should be spread.

3. Discuss Creating Some sort of Memorial

Planting a tree in the garden or having a small plaque put onto a tree is a great way to remember a pet. Printing a favourite photo and framing it in the house is an option. Children may also like to create a scrapbook. Children may have their own ideas on how they would like to remember their pet.

4. Be Patient

The loss of a pet can be incredibly difficult, but for children in particular, especially if it’s their first experience of grief, it can be incredibly challenging. It can take weeks or even months for a child to feel ok about what has happened and parents are urged to be patient with them.

5. Continue to Talk Openly

It’s really important for children to know that even though the loss of a pet hurts, they will always have the memories made with that pet. Talking about happy memories with the pet can be helpful after the initial shock of the loss has subsided.

The timing of finding a new pet can be difficult, particularly when children are involved.

A spokesperson for mediumbritta.com said: “There’s never a perfect time here. It’s not a simple answer. Allow enough time to pass so the shock has subsided and so your child doesn’t feel the new pet is a replacement for the lost pet.

“Explain that you can never replace your old pet, but that you have so much love to give to pets that there may come a time to welcome a new one. Ultimately, involve your children in the decision both in terms of what type of pet and the timing.”
